The Madison Skatepark Fund is striving to design and build the best park in the state. The greatest advantage to building a park now is that we can learn from the experiences from others who have built before us. The Madison skatepark will be a hybrid park that combines two very different riding environments to create surfaces appropriate for skaters of all skill levels, styles, and ages.

The skatepark will be constructed primarily of concrete. This surface requires little maintenance over time and is the preferred surface for heavy use skate parks. Concrete is also the best long-term solution to our climate challenges.

The plaza section is an artificial street course. This atmosphere encourages street riders to use their imagination while at the same time offering conventional obstacles commonly found in an urban setting. This area will comprise approximately 75% of the total ridable square footage in the park and will allow younger riders to hone skills in a safe and legal environment.

The pool section is very similar to the ramps that most people are accustomed to viewing on television. It will have gentle transitions that range in depth and will appeal to both experienced and beginning riders.
